Cedar Creek Habitat Enhancement Project

The Cedar Creek site is a 3.3 acre agricultural plot that lies just outside the Springfield Urban Growth Boundary in Oregon.  The site is a fallow field bordered by two water bodies: the North Fork of Cedar Creek and an unnamed McKenzie slough.   The adjacent riparian woodlands are also part of the project site.

In 2003 Habitats was asked to design this site as a connectivity corridor between two waterways, paying special attention to the natural history requirements of the Western Pond Turtle, a sensitive species that is a historical resident.

We generated a physical and biological survey of the site to determine drainage, botanical communities, soil characteristics, and suitability for pond turtle nesting and habitation. We then created a restoration design and management plan, which was submitted as a grant to fund its implementation.
