This article discusses the benefits of a properly-sited tree for reducing a home's energy use. The schematic graphic was drawn by Habitats' Landscape Architect, Cathy Corlett, which shows how different-sized trees might be placed in relation to the home to provide shade in summer. The article draws on the expertise of various local professionals, including those from EWEB, the Eugene Tree Foundation, Oregon Department of Forestry, OSU Extension Service, and Habitats' principal, Sarah Whitney.
