Restoration
McKenzie River Bank StabilizationThis project involved the stabilization of a stretch of river bank that was eroding years after large trees had been logged between the house and the river. Habitats collaborated with WoodWater, Inc. for fluvial geomorphological expertise in designing the bank treatment, and acquired all permits from multiple agencies. The design called for the toe of the bank to be reinforced with rootwad logs and boulders to help trap sediment, buffer the bank from the force of the river, and create areas to install livestakes, trees and shrubs. This native vegetation will ultimately provide additional bank stability, stream shading and other habitat values. Crews from Habitats, Woodwater and Seven Springs Stoneworks crane services placed logs and boulders on the bank in the summer of 2009, with planting to follow up in the fall. |
