A living ecosystem

Landscapes are part of a living ecosystem, exposed to the elements and forces of nature, and are therefore in a constant state of dynamic equilibrium in the cycles of growth and decay. Creating and maintaining healthy ecosystems reduces the need for intensive routine maintenance. We advocate design and construction methods that utilize life-cycle-costing benefits, minimize the need for toxic materials such as pesticides, include recycled, re-used and indigenous materials, and integrate low-maintenance concepts.

We offer landscape architecture services led by Habitats' design team member, Cathleen Corlett. Cathleen is a licensed Landscape Architect in Oregon and California with ten years of experience designing ecologically responsible landscapes at all scales. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon. Her focus in design and teaching is on making the most of the natural, historical and architectural context of a site.
